The Current Situation in Israel

Shalom,

Right now is not the time for a sassy blog post. Right now is not the time to share meaningless stories. Right now is the time to spread awareness of what Israel is facing and what it has been facing for over a decade.

In the 2000s, as we have witnessed new TV shows, citizens in southern Israel have witnessed thousands of rockets being launched towards them. Towards their cities, their homes, and their schools. As we have heard new music, these citizens have heard the sound of sirens, alerting them to the incoming rockets. As we have run on tracks and treadmills, these citizens have run for their lives.

Recently, as in the past week or so, Hamas (a recognized terrorist organization controlling Gaza) has upped its attacks on Israel, not only by sending more rockets into Israel but by firing Iranian-made rockets towards cities farther north. Cities like Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

Today, there was a bus bombing in Tel Aviv. The first one in years. Luckily no one was killed. Police are still searching for the terrorist. My program did not allow us to take the bus home from school today in order to air on the side of caution.

At 9pm my time, a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel came into place. Its now 10:38 and 12 rockets have been fired into Israel from Gaza.

These are trying times. I am lucky to be living in one of the safest areas of all of Israel and to be in a country where human lives are valued. Please keep Israel in your thoughts and in your hearts. Stay informed through reliable sources (if you need some I will be happy to provide them). Spread the word of what is really going on. But most importantly, don't give up. Israel and its citizens haven't. Neither should you.
